Last Sunday, both the Mikes ladies and mens teams competed in the championship finals, looking to wi both and do the double. The ladies took to the field first and got the club off to a great start, beating Ottawa with a great game of football. The ladies were up big with about 10 minutes remaining, but Ottawa battled back hard and made it a close one at the end. However, it was the Mikes ladies lifting the cup at the end of the day in their first championship final win. Congrats ladies.
The men came out onto the field next looking to beat Vincents and complete the double. The men played a very strong game the whole way through, but Vincents kept clawing back and tied it just before regulation time expired, sending the game to extra time. In that extra time, Mikes led all the way until the last 3 minutes, where Vincents came back with 3 quick points and won by a point. It was a disappointing result for the men, who felt they played a good game. However, the result will only drive them harder for next year.
Both teams had great seasons, as well as the junior team, and congratulations goes out to all involved in the three teams. Keep checking the website for upcoming club events.

All is good in the land of St. Mikes. On Sunday, the ladies won their Championship semifinal to advance to the final on Sunday against Ottawa. The ladies played a strong game, both defensively and offensively, and showed that they are the team to beat. However, Ottawa is always a strong opponent and so Sunday promises to be a good one. The men, after beating the Toronto Gaels on Saturday in the quarter finals, took on Durham in a highly anticipated matchup. As the first meeting this year, there were a lot of question marks for both teams but Mikes came out strong and played a hard hitting, fast paced game of football. The men jumped out to the early lead and never relinquished it, winning by a large 10-point margin. They will take on the always tough to play St. Vincents on Sunday for their second consecutive title.
Come out and support the club as the ladies and men go for the double. The ladies will play at 2:15pm on the big field at Centennial, directly followed by the men, at 3:30pm. It promises to be an action packed, exciting weekend at the park. Don't miss out!

In order to keep up with the schedule as best as possible, the Toronto GAA has decided that the first round of the Championship, postponed from last weekend due to weather, will be played out this Saturday at Centennial. The Mikes men will play the Toronto Gaels at 3:00pm. The ladies will not have a game because Brampton forfeit. Sundays games will proceed as scheduled on the Toronto GAA website.
