The club was started in 1965 by a group of irishmen in the Club Canadiana.  Present at the first meeting were Frank Murphy from Clan na Gael, Joe Carty, John Kane, Mickey Hamill, Tony Keys, Madge Galligan, and Mike Reilly of the Garryowen.  Eddie Flynn was elected the first president of St. Mikes and in their first football game they played to a draw with Garryowen.

In their first year of existence St. Mikes entered teams in football and hurling.  In 1967, the club won its first trophy, the Expo Cup, played in Hamilton against Hamilton.  The First hurling victory came in 1968 when they won the Chamionship and League in Lawrence Park. These victories were repeated in 1969.
